Je ziet ze overal in de openbare ruimte van Alkmaar: mobiele toiletten. Bij de vele bouwprojecten die nu en in de toekomst worden uitgevoerd, hoort ook de nodige infrastructuur, waaronder het zo herkenbare mobiele toilet. Met dit kunstwerk geeft Peter Zegveld een verrassende draai aan dit alledaagse object. De deur zit op slot; het toilet lijkt bezet. Wanneer je dichterbij komt, hoor je een geluidscompositie die is geschreven vanuit traditionele muzikale principes, maar wordt uitgevoerd met een wel heel bijzonder instrument... Met deze installatie reageert Zegveld, die zowel beeldend kunstenaar als theatermaker is, op een vertrouwd straatbeeld en transformeert het tot een humoristisch werk. Als bezoeker sta je hierdoor even stil bij objecten die zo gewoon zijn geworden dat je ze normaal gesproken nauwelijks meer opmerkt.

Rapsody Sanitaire (2025)

You see them all over Alkmaar’s public spaces: portable toilets. With the many construction projects currently underway—and those yet to come—these recognizable units have become a common part of the urban infrastructure. With this artwork, Peter Zegveld gives an unexpected twist to this everyday object. The door is locked; the toilet appears to be occupied. As you get closer, you hear a sound composition—written according to traditional musical principles, but performed on a most unusual instrument...

In this installation, Zegveld—both visual artist and theater maker—responds to a familiar element of the streetscape, transforming it into a humorous piece. As a visitor, you’re invited to pause and reflect on objects so commonplace that they usually go unnoticed.
